Rubbish removal across the North Shore

Rubbish removal on the North Shore is mostly a carrying problem. Houses below street level in Mosman and Northbridge are reached by stairs, apartments near the Junctions have no lift and nowhere to park, and Military Road's clearways limit when a truck can stop. Upper North Shore homes produce the big loads: long-held family houses being cleared after a death or a downsize, renovation debris, and trailer after trailer of prunings and palm fronds from large gardens. Each council offers booked kerbside clean-ups, free for a set number of collections each year, and those are worth using for what they will take; the rest needs a tradie with a truck.

A vetted removalist sorts as they load. Green waste, metal, e-waste, cardboard and clean fill are separated where practical so more is recycled and less goes to landfill, and everything ends at a licensed facility. Illegal dumping is an offence policed by the EPA and councils, which is one reason an active ABN and references matter in this category. Suspected asbestos cement, common in pre-1990 fibro sheds, eaves and fences, is not loaded with general rubbish: anything over 10 square metres is licensed removalist territory, and even small amounts must be wrapped and taken to a licensed facility by trained people. A careful tradie stops and says so.

Send photos of the pile with the job, plus a rough volume, where it sits on the property and how far it is from where a truck can park. Vetted removalists who cover the North Shore pick it up and send a written quote, usually priced by volume or by the load. No fee is charged to homeowners and you decide whether to book. For deceased estates and whole-house clearances the tradie can usually sort items for donation or sale first; for renovation waste, check whether your builder's contract already covers disposal before paying twice.

Frequently asked questions

Possibly some of it. North Shore councils offer booked kerbside collections, free up to a yearly limit, for household items within size and weight rules. They generally exclude building waste, soil, tyres, gas bottles and asbestos. Use the council service for what it accepts and match a tradie for the remainder.

Yes, and the quote will reflect the stairs and the distance to the truck. Tell us about the access when you post the job, including whether a trailer could get closer by a side lane. Mosman and Northbridge blocks are familiar territory for the tradies we match.

It is treated as asbestos until proven otherwise. A general rubbish removalist will not load it. Even a few sheets have to be double-wrapped and driven to a site licensed to accept asbestos, by people trained to handle it, and once the area passes 10 square metres a licensed asbestos removalist is required. Ask us to match a licensed removalist for that part.

To licensed waste and recycling facilities, with green waste, metals, e-waste and cardboard separated where the tradie can. You are entitled to ask the tradie which facilities they use. Dumping on roadsides or bushland is an offence in NSW, and our code of conduct commits every tradie in the network to lawful disposal.
